"Yeah, I'm an asshole, so what?"

Why not just make them shop at "Burlap R US", or "Barrels, Old Newspapers & Beyond"? Poor people need to be needlessly humiliated -- how exactly would this be enforced jag off?

Under a new budget proposal from State Sen. Bruce Casswell, children in the state’s foster care system would be allowed to purchase clothing only in used clothing stores.

Casswell, a Republican representing Branch, Hillsdale, Lenawee and St. Joseph counties, made the proposal this week, reports Michigan Public Radio.

His explanation?

“I never had anything new,” Caswell says.

And in the spirit in which it was offered, perhaps he could amend the bill to require yellow stars be sown upon the clothing, so it can be more easily inspected for authenticity by the authorities?

This proposal can't fly because it discrimates in favor of used clothing stores. Surely Macy's and Neiman Marcus will register their opposition.

I remember this one time when I was about 6 yo or so after my dad died and mom was cleaning up with the public aid in the 60s. Our new limo driver had the flu and couldn't drive us from the Midwest to New York to shop at Macy's. Mom called up the Democratic party and they sent additional emergency public aid so that we could charter a plane. That's the time I got my first pair of diamond encrusted cowboy boots with matching holster.

Good times on the public aid. Too bad Sen. Bruce's (R-Asswipe) family were republicans and had to make do with good-republican used clothes. That reminds me of the story the President Nixon (R-Bullshit) once told.......

This guy has issues. He's just one more jerk who needs a visit from the ghosts of Christmas' Past, Present Future.

Atrios nominated this guy for Wanker of the Decade....I see Atrios' decade and raise him a century.

The current Republican/conservative regime says it's okay to hate...it's okay to discriminate...it's okay to shame.

Bullshit

The sooner we end the Republican rein of shame the better.

Just the latest manifestation of the Republican belief that wealth is a sign of God's favor and that poverty is the fault of the poor, even if they are children.

besides hating the poor, why is this guy trying to shut down the economy?

used clothes don't cost nearly as much as new ones do (less revenue into the system), plus requiring the poor to only purchase used they are hampering the production of new merch, thereby inhibiting job growth...

what an American hating douchebag... may his term in Congress be short, may his wealth disappear, and may his life be long.

Day-yum. Remember "compassionate conservatives"? That's so last century.

Repugs have, in general, been mean-spirited little pricks for many decades, but now, being one is the price of admission to their party.

The reason for this proposal on Casswell's website is that foster parents don't spend the state allocation on the foster kids so he wants to give the kids a voucher (it's $80 for the year)to be sure they get the money.

He's from the same part of Michigan where the emergency financial manager wants to give away public Lake Michigan beachfront so they can build a private golf course.

I sent this guy a check for $80 and asked him to find a needy foster kid in his district and give them a voucher for a Michigan company (like Meijers) so the kid can buy some clothes.

We'll see what happens.

My adult daughters now understand why we told them when they were kids to never bring home a Republican. Anyone but a Republican!
