Better hope third time isn't the charm

The U.S. has lost to Ghana the last two World Cups. And it's hard to really dislike a small African country, so good for them -- while mistakes or good fortune were involved in both goals, what their two players did with those chances reflected a hell of a lot of skill. Ghana didn't have the excellent midfielder Michael Essien and fielded a really young team that doesn't play all that cohesively yet because they're all so young.

But what talent, when these guys get older they are going to be really tough to beat -- I certainly wouldn't want to be in their group in 2014.

So, who are we supposed to root for now?

don't worry about it. let's figure out how to persuade ourselves that we aren't winning in Afganistan or Iraq and our troops could do more good cleaning up the gulf. Vox

We don't have to win them all. Now I'm rooting for the Fellowship of the Vuvuzela.

geez....

I'm running out of teams to cheer for in the World Cup.
First the beloved Azzurri are gone in the group stage. Next, the US of A and jolly ol' England are gone from the group of 16.

France which is OK to cheer for in footie (but not dependable as an ally in war) long gone from the tourney with a national inquiry to follow findings of what went wrong.

Who to cheer for.....??

hmmm....

....definitely NOT Germany or the Argies. And one of those are gone in the quarters head to head match up.
....anybody that can knock off the survivor of those two looks like a pretty good choice to me. Sooooo...

Spain in the semis or the survivor of Brazil/Netherlands in the finals....

hmmm.....

....just so long as Germany nor Argentina ends up winning.

put all the collegiate american football factories on probation. all of the potentially best strikers and and midfielders are playing defensive back and slot receiver. damn you nfl; every four years i have to settle for the round of 16 and find a new band wagon to jump on.

You just know they wen nuts in Ghana after this victory. Of the team remaining, I've spent the most time in Ghana, so I"m pulling for them (although they are an extreme long shot). My head still says Spain or Argentina (although Germany was very impressive against England - shitting referring aside). Brazil seems flat this year despite winning their group handily.

If you don't have any German friends it's time you got some. They think. (and they care - a story for another time.)

They play cohesively as a team. Soccer (or American football) is much more fun when there's a little chess involved.

(and enough with the war cracks - Germans have done a far better job of repentance and introspection than we ever will after we finish our massive fascist fuckups...)

Get a grip Daver.

America has made some mistakes. But none of those mistakes are even remotely deserving of the same careful introspection that surely must follow the massive organized erasure of millions of people.
